Selected Idea: Choose Your Own Adventure / Interactive Fiction Game
- Players self-declare who they are now
- Players can choose new character to play the game as
- Optional: players can fill in a pre-game survey to guess what the experience will be like
- Players will play the interactive fiction game. Each "chapter" offers options for paths the player can take. Each option comes with points; pain/pleasure or success/hardship (tbc).
- The goal is to maximise success but minimise hardship.
- At the end of the game, they will get their score, and compared against other players who got this "character" to play. The scores will also be compared against the most "successful" archetypes (esp male, majority race, etc)
- Players can fill in a reflection post-game survey
- Social Media strategy: each chapter can be from "real" stories from minorities, to illustrate that it isn't just a game to many of them. Eg the chapter on marriage but parents disapprove of mixed race - we can have a video interview of someone who was in that situation to make it more powerful. After the game, players can view the stories that inspired each chapter.
- Technology "Stack": We will use Fungus + Unity or Twine 2 (likely with Sugarcube or Monogatari format) platform to develop the game. See resource list below. Both options are low-code options.
The Fairness Principle: How the Veil of Ignorance Helps Test Fairness
This game is based on a Rawlsian "Veil of Ignorance", to help players reflect on the design of society and the norms / values / beliefs that make life ******challenging for others, so that they learn empathy.
